Børge Mogensen (1914-1972) is a Danish designer who had a great influence on modern Scandinavian design of the 50s and 60s. Together with Fredericia, a renowned furniture manufacturer, he conquered several interiors with his brilliant designs.
Fredericia Furniture is a Danish design studio run by Thomas Graversen. The brand was founded in 1911 under the name Fredericia Stolefabrik by N.P. Ravnsø. From the start of the company, quality was the single most important thing. Because of this, Fredericia has grown into a renowned design agency today. In 1955 Andreas Graversen became head of the Fredericia company. He insisted on a collaboration with Børge Mogensen at the time of the takeover. Andreas Graversen, the father of the current CEO of Fredericia, and Børge Mogensen started a close friendship. The two had an tumultuous relationship but were on exactly the same page when it came to furniture design. A piece of furniture had to meet two requirements: it had to be designed for daily use and had to be able to last a lifetime. This philosophy is still in place in the company today. It ensures that the brand produces furniture sustainably and ethically.
By seeing the pieces of furniture in their original setting, a piece of history is unravelled.
Fredericia still exists and is going strong. They always do their best to design new collections with simplicity, quality and innovation. Yet Børge Mogensen remains one of the best-known designers Fredericia has ever worked with. His designs can still be found on the website and can be located all over the world. Recently Fredericia took pictures in Mogensen's original house. The space where he designed his most famous furniture pieces, these can be found everywhere in the house. The photos give context to the furniture. By seeing them in their original setting, a piece of history is unravelled. The design not only makes sense in a Scandinavian home. Mogensen's designs are timeless, even now they are still modern and innovative.
