The talented Polish designer behind Anke Design Studio manages to enchant time and again with her unparalleled vision of design. Her latest project, HIKARI, is no exception. Inspired by the Japanese word for ‘light’, this project embodies the essence of healing, vitality and harmony. The design sets a new standard for contemporary architecture and shows how spaces can not only be functional, but also have a deep emotional impact.
Located in a boutique residential complex in northern Kraków, designed by Bazuka Studio, the 90-square-metre flat is an ode to the power of natural light. The homeowners foster a deep appreciation for how sunlight caresses the walls of their home, and this desire became the core of the design direction. HIKARI is not just a home; it is a subtly choreographed space where light and shadow dance together, leading to an atmosphere that is both soothing and vibrant.
Redesigning the functional layout of the flat was a crucial step in this project.Anke Design Studio focused on creating a home that offers both a refuge and facilitates moments of connection. The open-plan living and dining area is the heart of the flat, designed for shared moments of cooking, eating and enjoying. At the same time, the private zone-a harmonious amalgamation of bedroom, bathroom and walk-in closet-reflects the need for intimacy and serenity. The design emphasises simplicity and sustainability. By using a limited selection of materials, Anke Design Studio made every element come into its own. Natural stone on the floor, wooden wall panelling and microcement combine to create a timeless, minimalist aesthetic. These materials not only enhance the visual cohesion of the space, but also allow the home to age gracefully.
Not only a reflection of the owners' lifestyle, but also of a philosophy that elevates design to an art form that promotes well-being
One of the most striking aspects of HIKARI is its ingenious play with light.Reflective surfaces of raw steel create a constantly changing dynamic between light and shadow. These elements evoke a sense of lightness and wonder, making the flat constantly rediscoverable. The theme of light is not just an aesthetic choice; it is deeply intertwined with the principles of neuroarchitecture. This field of science explores how architecture affects well-being, and is visible here in the rounded edges, tactile surfaces and the balance between openness and security.
With this recent project, Anke Design Studio demonstrates how conscious design can have a powerful impact on both physical and emotional environments. This project not only reflects the lifestyle of its owners, but also a philosophy that elevates design into an art form that promotes well-being. With HIKARI, Anke Design Studio not only brings to life a visual masterpiece, but also reminds us of the deep connection between people, space and nature. The project transcends trends by focusing on the core values of well-being, harmony and simplicity. It is a design that lives and breathes, adapting to residents' needs and inspiring them to interact consciously with their environment. By embracing light as a guiding principle, Anke shows that architecture can be more than a physical structure: it can be a symbol of life and hope, a canvas on which the inhabitants' story continues to unfold. HIKARI is a house that knows no boundaries except those of imagination.
