Pure simplicity and an aura of pure tranquillity are the hallmark of Studio Leeman. With his most recent project, enveloped in light colours, soft materials and textures, you imagine yourself in an oasis of peace.
His most recent project, called Residence HB, immediately caught our eye. The villa, which was built in the early 1980s, is located in the Antwerp municipality of Brasschaat.
With the use of natural and warm materials, the focus is placed on proportions and design, which is a fine reflection of Studio Leeman’s vision. ‘The large spaces inside the house called for the use of the right materials. Generous spaces can often feel cold when hard and cold materials are used, so this was certainly one of the main focal points,’ says Wim Leemans. With a simple palette of colours and materials and large windows, Studio Leeman brought warmth to this minimalist setting. The colour tones of the various materials are matched to each other, so that a calm ton sur ton atmosphere is created. In this way, Residence HB was both given an individuality and a timeless look.

Terrazzo was chosen as the first material since the client has a love for this material and wanted to integrate it into her interior. Terrazzo can often be overpowering, therefore, Van Houcke and Leemans chose it to create a contrast and to set accents within the whole. The use of different materials has also been limited. The floor covering was given a light grey brushed fishbone parquet in combination with a micro-topping in grey-beige. The interior, made of oak veneer with white lacquer, was custom-made. Furthermore, Studio Leeman opted for matt black tapware in both the kitchen and the bathroom to create an extremely soft contrast with the light walls. In addition, the walls also create more space and, thus, put the other materials more to the fore.
The chosen palette of materials was continued throughout the entire concept of the residence. As with all Studio Leeman projects, the inspiration for Residentie HB in Brasschaat comes from contemporary architecture, but also from architecture of the past. From the summer of 2022 onwards, the young family will be able to stay in this minimalist residence that will welcome them with all its warmth and tranquillity. The renovation of this villa features a beautiful balance of shapes, textures, colours and elegant details. A task that Studio Leeman succeeded in, according to Imagicasa.
