- Architecture & development
Our partner nōmar architects is working on this recent project in Ooigem, Belgium. With this assignment, the young team succeeded in providing a family with a holiday home that will last forever. The promising visualisations make us dream away to this warm nest of light.
For the client, it was essential that the design radiate a continuous sense of holiday. It was therefore with the greatest care that nōmar architects pursued this, and together with the extensive landscape and winding roads of Ooigem, the house was given a high attraction factor. Specifically, the decision was made to work with three different volumes and to position them carefully. Upon entering the driveway, you are greeted by the highest volume of the building; the two lower volumes were placed deeper and complete the architectural silhouette. The covered entrance gives access to the house; the front of the house was deliberately kept closed in order to do full justice to the openness of the rear. Inside, a feeling of cosiness is also created by the fact that the entire floor of the house is forty centimetres above the surrounding ground level.
The decision was made to work with three different volumes and to position them carefully.
It was decided with great conviction to develop a sober and horizontal architecture. This choice marries well with the abundant greenery that surrounds the house. Outside on the terrace, which is also raised, residents and visitors can enjoy the central fireplace and the far-reaching fields. The holiday feeling goes further than that, however: several patios have also been installed, which resolutely give the incoming light the upper hand. An additional advantage is that these offer broad perspectives on the garden and the wider surroundings. As far as the style is concerned, nōmar architects took a brutalist direction. In addition, they opted for modern and discreet window frames, thus softening the boundary between inside and outside. Both the interior and the exterior of the house were designed in light tones that respond to the relaxation the clients seek when coming home.
House 12 by nōmar architects is a great success. The distinctive architecture of the house contrasts beautifully with the calming character of the colour palette and the design of the interior. When the realisation of the design is behind them, the family will undoubtedly have a peaceful future in a beautiful residence.
