Sometimes you need to withdraw from the chaos and speed of daily life to be able to participate in it again. Daniel Tenev's Mountain Cabin project is an ideal place to spend the interim period and regain the tranquillity that we all lose at times.
Daniel Tenev's work is generally based on his interest in the human experience of space. He approaches his designs from the sensory way in which people encounter the world, and tries to harmonise material, light and shape, starting from his own body and mind. His Mountain Cabin therefore summarises the essence of his personal architecture. The residence is one hundred square metres in size and is surrounded by mighty natural vistas. When it comes to cabin design, Tenev considers it important to interact with the surrounding nature in a proper way. In some areas it needs to be fully embraced, while in others a controlled distance gives the best result. The Mountain Cabin has a strong connection to the mountains and the pine forest; therefore, they were honoured in the architecture of the house. The aim of this cabin was to create a design where, on the one hand, the connection with nature is prominent, and where, on the other hand, spaces are provided that are the ideal environment to relax and return to our primitive emotions and actions. When we retreat into the wild, we are able to draw strength from simple activities, such as taking a bath or chopping wood. Mountain Cabin echoes the simplicity of those things, and in the meantime rejects any superfluousness. This leads to a peaceful interior where you can easily escape the hectic outside. The exclusive focus on the important things, concerning ourselves and the design of the cabin, provides a beautiful simplicity that continues to vibrate. On top of that, you can enjoy a peaceful silence and the warmth of a crackling fire.

For Tenev, it was very important that his materials contained sensual qualities. That is how he ended up with the classic Douglas wood from the Dinesen brand, which is both rich and pure in expression. In addition, the material is closely linked to a Scandinavian lifestyle. The wood was applied to both the walls and the ceilings, creating a cosy atmosphere. The architect strongly believes that quality materials can bring our minds closer to the here and now, through their appearance, smell, sound and tactility. Through his well-considered use of materials, Tenev succeeds in creating a pleasant atmosphere that makes time slip away a little more slowly. The distant views also help at this, as does the well-considered sobriety with which the whole has been designed. In Mountain Cabin, it is easy to stand still while the outside world goes on spinning. Thanks to the talent of Daniel Tenev, this project is the ideal destination for those who want to get back to basics, and who like to do this in a natural and calming environment. And there is only one rule that applies here: everything is done without a rush.
