- Interior
Simplicity and serenity. These are two words that are central to every design by renowned interior designer Dries De Malsche. This is how he manages to create a warm living or working environment in every space. Today, Imagicasa takes you to his most recent project: City Apartment AG and FG. Here, functionality and aesthetics are transformed into refined details, creating two modest, comfortable and aesthetically pleasing residences.
After graduating from university in 2004, Dries De Malsche worked for seven years at the Ghent design agency Aksent Interieur before setting up his own eponymous studio in the middle of 2011. His work is characterised by a strong sense of detail, illustrated by the use of handmade customised furniture, traditional construction techniques, not guided by trends and fashions, but sustainable with a focus on sobriety. In short, all his interior projects receive special attention to finish and detail. The interplay between tranquillity, friendliness, light and authenticity of materials leads to a creation that Dries De Malsche wants to radiate fully. In the meantime, the interior studio has expanded to countries such as Dubai, and minimalist design has become his signature style. A signature that clearly emerges in the creations we are pleased to present to our readers: City Apartment AG and FG, located in Antwerp city centre. The common features: soft natural stone as a base in the kitchen and a brighter marble countertop in the bathroom. Above all, both spaces enjoy a strong presence of natural light that is enhanced by the softly curved details of the fixed furniture.
His work is characterised by a strong sense of detail.
In these two designs, we are introduced to the designer's distinctive approach to interior design based on three defining areas: context, craftsmanship and materials. De Malsche attributes his exclusive use of natural materials to the atmosphere and overall result of a project. The close and family ties of both siblings were used as inspiration for the design of both apartments. A palette of warm pink tones, dark coloured oak door panels and brushed travertine completely describe the FG apartment. While the other apartment has a more pronounced marble, natural coloured oak and smoked wood floor. The differences reinforce the personal touch of the owners and give each apartment its own character. Dries De Malsche's distinctive minimalist style is impressively reflected in this project. It offers its residents a quiet haven in the middle of the hustle and bustle of city life. A wonderful compromise if you ask us! Photography by Piet-Albert Goethals
