Am House is located amidst a lush garden, between the green of the leaves and the blue of the sky. The aim of this house, located in Vietnam, was to create a peaceful and joyful place, where the resident can unwind after a stressful week.
Am House, located in the Vietnamese province of Long An, is a project by three young architects, who work at AmDesign Architects, Time Architects and CTA | Creative Architects. The owner of the house lives in Ho Chi Minh City and is a marketing director for a large company. To be able to escape from daily stress every now and then, he wanted a peaceful place where he could forget his worries for a while and unwind. The building consists of five separate blocks, which are randomly arranged under the large thatched roof and right next to a lake. Splitting these blocks up creates different views, both from inside and outside the house. It also provides natural ventilation and daylight in every room. Various solutions have been integrated into the house to keep out the heat. Finally, it was important to integrate nature into the home and everyday life.
The house was designed in such a way that each room gets enough natural ventilation and daylight.
The sheet steel roofing system is covered with a thatched roof typical of the architecture of South-West Vietnam. The material is not only environmentally friendly, but also helps integrate the house with nature. Under the roofing, there is a ceiling system finished in wood. The layout of the roofing system allows the building to reduce heat and keep the indoor temperature lower than that of the outdoors. In the middle of the house, a slot has been installed to allow more daylight into the house. The wooden ceiling system has been given the same colour as the wood-clad concrete walls. A colour similar to that of the walls was chosen for the floor as well. To reduce costs and make the resident feel comfortable when walking on the floor, a ground concrete floor was laid. The similarity of colour and surface structure of all elements in the house makes Am House a calm and peaceful space that is in harmony with the surrounding landscape.
