The architectural firm Olson Kundig will soon be supporting its clients and projects from a new office in Midtown Manhattan, New York. With this new investment, the firm wants to emphasize its commitment to the metropolis and urban areas. The eye-catcher of the space is the 144-square-foot table, which represents a conceptual urban landscape.
Olson Kundig is an American architectural firm that has already received several prestigious awards, such as the AIA Housing Awards. The firm undertakes very diverse projects, such as designing museums, exhibitions, commercial spaces, residential spaces, and so on. The office is based in Seattle and already occupied a smaller workspace in New York. However, the relocation to a larger office in Manhattan heralds a new professional chapter for the firm. According to Hemanshu Parwani (HP), CEO of Olson Kundig, this investment creates opportunities for new relationships and projects with the East Coast and international markets.
Olson Kundig wants to integrate all forms of creative expression into the workspace.
The office consists of workspaces, a kitchen and a meeting and event space, called the Living Room. This is where the large wooden table is displaced, designed by Tom Kundig himself, that depicts the works of the firm and other architects. The set piece embodies Washington's design culture. In this way, the interior of the new New York office creates a clear link to the agency's home base, Seattle. Furthermore, the office will be characterised by the presence of various works of art, such as paintings and sculptures, as Olson Kundig wants to integrate all forms of creative expression into the workspace.
This brand-new office by Olson Kundig is a real treasure. There is a harmonious balance between the vibrant location and the soothing design of the interior. We will be keeping an eye on the architectural firm for even more exciting projects in the future. Photography by Angela Hau
