An accommodation needs to offer you more than a bed and a roof above your head. Instead, you are looking for an experience, a special factor, and a memorable story. The Sky Yards Hotel in China complies with such expectations, because the view on the Taihang Shan adds an extraordinary element to your stay.
It is Domain Architects we must thank for the Sky Yards Hotel in Henan, China. The studio commits to elevating spatial adventures by handling sites in an innovative way. The code word leaves no room to doubt that: experience. Conventional designs do not appeal to them since they strongly believe in the uniqueness of each location. The founder is Xiamong Xu, born in Beijing and graduated as architect in the United States. The logic and quality of the spaces that he designs with his studio enjoy the utmost priority and are proof of the successful way in which Domain Architects operates. With this hotel, they confirm their interest in experimental perspectives, as well as the possibilities these can introduce to the architecture of today and tomorrow.
The current environment of the Sky Yards Hotel mainly consists of industrial sites and building grounds under construction. However, this does not mean that there is not a scenic future awaiting the project. As soon as the surrounding works are completed, they can form the background of a special accommodation, together with the impressive Taihang Shan. The hotel contains 48 rooms that each have their own mini garden. On the one hand, this was done to make a pleasant open-air contribution to the outdoor environment; on the other, this was a way to spark the idea of the traditional Chinese garden. A smart choice, considering that, in this way , they obtain an idyllic undertone and a private spot to enjoy the fresh air at the same time. Next to this, the curved walls are a point of interaction for the incoming sunlight.
The elevations that characterise the exterior return in the interior as well.
Curiously, the façade of the hotel is some distance removed from the ground. This has a specific reason since the circulation of pedestrians and car can run more smoothly because of this. If you look at the front of the building from a distance, it might strike you that it is, in some respects, similar to a mountain. The elevations that characterise the exterior, however, return in the interior as well. For example, the reception in the restaurant and the signage of the room numbers, among others, also suggest an upwards movement. Next to an aesthetic design, the hotel has clearly received a conceptual approach. Namely, Domain Architects carefully considered the spatial lines, shapes, and proportions, and came to an innovative result. The Sky Yards Hotel did not steal its name. Here, you do not only enter a clean interior, but also a private garden where you can optimally enjoy the outdoor air. The Taihang Shan accompanies the view and gives you the feeling that you can touch the pastel colours almost as easily. Domain Architects can still teach us a lot about the ways in which spatiality and form play can become a fascinating spectacle
