This apartment by Houssein Jarouche in Sao Paulo is a true dream for those who love art, especially Modernist art. The interior of the furniture and art dealer is filled with works by top names such as Warhol and Dali and forms a beautiful mix of Pop art, Modernism and vintage.
The owner of this beautiful home also has a gallery in Sao Paulo: Galeria Houssein Jarouche and even his house almost looks more like an art gallery than an apartment. His previous apartment got a lot of attention as well. This was designed by Triptyque Architecture and is located on the floor above his current home. He now uses it as a studio. "I really needed a family home now and that requires a different kind of design," Jarouche said in a previous interview with Interior Design. He is married to fashion entrepreneur and model Fabiana Mayer and together they renovated their new apartment of no less than 300m2. They specifically chose furniture and art that create a comfortable environment to live and entertain in.
Step inside this apartment full fo Pop art and Modernist art
We find mainly Modernist pieces – many of which are vintage – by international and Brazilian designers. Jarouche himself has a large collection from the sixties and seventies. The many works of art are clearly visible almost everywhere because the spaces merge into one another. This creates a very open feeling and so you can enjoy the beautiful works everywhere. For example, the kitchen, dining room and a sitting area merge into one another and you only see a separation in the different floors. In this part you will find the beautiful Ada With Sunglasses by Alex Katz and also an 'Isamu Noguchi' sofa and ottoman. Also one of Warhol's famous soup tins Cheddar Cheese (1969) stands in the kitchen.

In the living space, Jarouche chose a fine mix of colours and materials. There are the yellow velvet chairs from the seventies and vintage chairs from two iconic Brazilian designers: Sergio Rodrigues and José Zanine Caldas. In such an interior as this, a classic like Jean Prouvé cannot be left out either, of course. We find a new edition of his 'Fauteuil de Salon' (1939). Next to this space there is a kind of sitting area where we find the special golden chair that was designed by Dali and seems to have jumped right out of his paintings – If you want to read more about this chair and other furniture by Dali, we’d like to refer to the article in our Imagicasa Art 2018 edition – Above this is a silkscreen collaboration between Jarouche and Abidiel Vicente. In this section you will also find a very famous and iconic lounge chair with ottoman by Charles and Ray Eames. This is nicely complemented by another collaboration between Jarouche and Vicente: the Warhol Box. We can go on and on about all the beautiful works that Jarouche exhibits in his home. From his interior it is clear that he loves Pop art and we at Imagicasa are also big fans of his Modernist and vintage furnishings!
