An abundance of space, far views and an interior that makes you feel as if you are on a holiday that never ends; to find these qualities, you need to look a little further than Belgium sometimes. That is why today we are focusing on Mar Vista Residence by Woods + Dangaran.
Mar Vista Residence is in the district of the same name in Los Angeles, California. Many luxury residences are located in hilly areas, and so is this gem. More specifically, Mar Vista is situated on a downward sloping street. The project started in 2017, with the client moving into the new home in July 2020. As far as the size of the house is concerned, you can feast your eyes on a generous 550 square metres. Even from the outside, the building makes you pause for a moment. A white plaster wall has been erected to ensure privacy, while the second floor rises above it and seems almost to float in the air. Slim cedar blinds limit the view into the upper floor. In addition, the floor plan has an L-shape, which has interesting consequences for the exterior spaces of the house. Finally, Woods + Dangaran ensured that the interior seamlessly blended in with the exterior appearance. 
The entire colour palette consists of light tones reminiscent of wood and cream.
Mar Vista is divided into two floors and contains four bedrooms and seven bathrooms. Concrete was laid on the ground floor, while the upper floor was fitted with a smoked oak floor. The living area includes a kitchen, dining room and living room. The former is also equipped with all necessary appliances, including a coffee maker, wine cooler and ice machine. From the living area, an impressive staircase takes you upstairs. This is accompanied by a beautiful open view of the high ceilings, and the wide steps of the staircase also add to the comfort and luxury. If you want to withdraw quietly, you can go to the lounge room for a moment of genuine relaxation. For more active relaxation, a large swimming pool is available outside, including lounge chairs. An additional advantage of Mar Vista is its green surroundings. Not only does the swimming pool offer a view of the surrounding greenery, but the dining table inside also offers a view of the necessary nature. 
Fabrics and floor coverings with a rich texture were used, so that materials such as hard plaster, metal and glass do not dominate, and a chilly atmosphere is avoided at all times. The furniture was made to measure in order to make the best use of the spaces. Their organic and curved shapes provide a soft element that enhances the rather austere architecture. The entire colour palette consists of light tones reminiscent of wood and cream. This creates a safe atmosphere that brings a sense of relaxation and focus. The whole house is therefore balanced and inviting. In addition, the materials used form a strong whole without losing any of its spirit and character in any room. In the rain shower, for example, the marble immediately catches the eye, which is effortlessly kept in check by the rest of the room.
