Nature is often more important than famous names, which is exactly what the designers wanted to prove with Casa Mana, a farmhouse located in a rural part of Mallorca known for its vineyards.
Casa Mana, a 4-bedroom house including 2 suites, was restored with sustainability in mind. Every stone and piece of wood that was on the land was reused. The material palette includes breathable mortar, natural insulation and rainwater is collected by natural insulation to irrigate the farm. In addition, they have organic certification for the entire land. The farm grows and delivers organic vegetables to local shops and restaurants and they also have a small market where people can pick up baskets every Tuesday. The ambition for this home is that it can be rented exclusively as a holiday home through the agency The Thinking Traveller. It also functions as a showroom for local artists, where Balearic craftsmen can display their ceramics, paintings and photography and is available for customers to buy. In that way everything in the house is constantly changing. The designer's idea is to have unique pieces that their guests will take home. In this way, the art in the house will change every few months. It’s a space that is created where you can heal and undress surrounded by nature and art.
A home that is constantly changing
Architects Rafael Bennasar Miguel at 25 Projects Mallorca worked with interior designer Melanie Murata of Kaur Design who helped them with the decoration. The interior features exposed stone walls, polished concrete floors and a wooden bathtub with a brushed metal feel. They also stayed true to the typical beige colours of the island. For the furniture, the designers chose dining chairs, outdoor cushions and mirrors from KSAR Ibiza. All wooden furniture, bed frames, coffee tables and tables were made by Ana's partner, Matias Alexandro. Furthermore, the design firm will soon launch custom-made, handcrafted pieces from recycled pieces of wood they found on the land. Mashamba Mallorca is responsible for the landscape design and the artwork in the living space is by contemporary artist Anna Alexandra. To complete the picture, sustainability was also considered for the soaps and shampoos. They are all ecological thanks to the work of GAIA Natural Mallorca. They were given a unique scent inspired by the house and what grows around the property. So the designers chose jasmine, mandarin, eucalyptus and a bit of a mossy base note to add a sense of an old farmhouse.
