In its fourth participation in CasaCor, one of the largest architecture exhibitions in the Americas, NJ+ Arquitetos presented a complete 200m² home that honours Brazilian ceramics. The project unites organic volumes with wood and carefully composed refined artworks.
The theme of the exhibition, which runs until 15 November, is 'The Original House'. The project of NJ+ Arquitetos was named Casa Olaria and focuses on the importance of moments of introspection and seclusion. For example, the bedroom is subtly separated from other rooms by an inviting cylindrical volume in the middle of the living room, inspired by the work of Belgian architect Juliaan Lampens.
The space unites organic shapes with geometric forms.
The space unites organic shapes, which refer to the handmade works of Brazilian ceramists, with geometric forms. Thus, the home is characterised by a comfortable and minimalist aesthetic, with Legno Nórdico finishes on the ceiling from partner brand Bontempo evoking Brazilian modernism, giving a sense of cosiness. The Bontempo ceiling also refers to the roofs of traditional potteries and stands out in an organically shaped living room. The room also houses a bookcase made of Corten steel and various ceramic works by artists from all over the country. In addition to wood, the round shapes of the upholstery, bookcase, mirrors and other furniture pieces, as well as the neutral colour palette, contribute to the contemporary minimalist aspect of the room. Natural materials are used extensively in the dining room, home office, kitchen and master bedroom with bathroom. When entering the bedroom, the neutral and minimalist environment is also immediately noticeable. The room has a cosy, light atmosphere and focuses on the bed, which was specially designed by NJ+ Arquitetos for the exhibition. The adjoining bathroom focuses on volumetrics and neutral tones, giving it, like all the other rooms, a refined and discreet look.
Amongst the furniture, Brazilian design stands out with pieces carefully selected for the exhibition, such as the Guanabara dining table and the Ipanema and Manhattan armchairs, all by Jorge Zalszupin. Other design names are also present, such as Arthur Casas, Guilherme Wentz, Lina Bo Bardi and Ricardo Fasanello. Photography by Denilson Machado – MCA Estúdio
