The unique Boar Shoat residence is secluded between the hills and was designed by Imbue Design to escape stress. With several separate structures, a central outdoor living space and a simple, serene interior and exterior, this home is the perfect retreat.
Imbue Design is a modern architecture studio where everything revolves around modern minimalism. The designers want to enrich the lives of their clients ‘with the beauty of simplicity and the freedom of thoughtful spaces’. At Imbue Design, quality takes precedence over quantity, function over decoration, architecture over building and home over house. Their minimalist and modern design aesthetics are beautifully represented in the beautiful Boar Shoat project.
The aim was to commune more with nature and each other
Boar Shoat is a remote low-rise residence on Baer Lake in Idaho. The house is situated between grass-covered hills and the Rocky Mountains and has one floor. The clients wanted a secluded place to retreat to. Imbue's assignment was to design a home where the owners could ‘remove themselves from social stress and digital connection and communicate with nature and each other,’ it sounds. The name Boar Shoat is an invented term by the owners and they themselves very appropriately translate it into 'youthful vivacity'. The residence is made up of three structures located under an open-air pavilion. The large covered outdoor living space forms the heart of the project. This space is flanked by the triangle of small structures in which the residence, guesthouse and storage are located. They serve as windbreakers for the outdoor living space and form a frame for the beautiful views. The exterior is clad with metal accordion plates. Thanks to the unique shape of the plates, different patterns of light and shadow are created throughout the day, which change as the day and the seasons change. The interior is simple and reflects the minimalist approach of Imbue Design. The beautiful surroundings are brought inside by ceiling-high windows. The walls were painted in fresh white so that they could serve as a gallery for the extensive art collection put together by the owners' daughter. The furniture was chosen by the lady of the house, which makes the house even more personal. Rough concrete floors are softened by the natural wooden ceiling. Thanks to the natural environment and the beautiful simple design, Boar Shoat is the perfect serene retreat.
