- Architecture & development
The residence is located in the beautiful green suburb of Kifisia, the northern part of Greece's capital. Kordas Architects designed a four-storey residential building with a striking curved geometry. The arrangement of the balconies with rounded corners ensures a generous view of the urban environment while maintaining privacy.
Kordas Architects took inspiration from the surrounding area, which is loved for its unique architectural heritage with iconic buildings from the past and present, as well as for the natural beauty of its dense vegetation. Founder of the agency, Aristides Kordas, developed a composition of different organic, curved volumes spread over four levels. In addition, the architect embraced the natural environment, allowing it to integrate harmoniously into the surroundings. Visitors are immediately welcomed by the small ponds at the entrance. The living spaces on the ground floor and those on the upper balconies are strategically arranged to create multiple viewing angles without compromising privacy. The core of the building remains rationally and structurally intact through the playfulness of the exterior. The residential building houses three individual three-bedroom flats and a smaller studio on the highest level of the building. The eye-catcher of the project has to be the see-through swimming pool, which is visible from the inside through a glass wall and throws up compelling undulating visuals. The pool is partially visible from one of the bedrooms on a lower level, where the projections of the water evoke a dreamlike atmosphere in the room.
A reconciliation between natural and artificial elements.
The idea behind this project was to reconcile the natural elements (trees, earth, water) with the artificial elements of the human structure. The structured plaster surfaces, the wooden details and the abundant vegetation along the perimeter of the building all aim to create a sense of naturalistic artifact on the scale of a real-life building. In short: a concept of harmonious integration of the technical creation into the natural environment. Kordas Architects' goal is to offer high-quality architectural services that cover a wide range of building typologies. Since its foundation, the firm has successfully taken on and completed several projects, both in Greece and abroad, developing into a large, well-organised network of design professionals. Once again, this unique residence in Kifisia is a fine example of good cooperation between founder Aristides Kordas, project architect Anastasis Dimokas and designer Athina Raftopoulou.
