At the beginning of this month, the eighteenth edition of the world-famous Art Basel art fair took place again in Miami Beach. For those who couldn't be there, here is a brief overview of the most impressive, special and successful artists who exhibited their works.
Of course we can't help but start with the work that caused the most fuss and immediately went around the world: the banana that was taped to the wall by Maurizio Cattelan called Comedian. The work was very popular, but also ridiculed. The price at which the work of art was sold is no laughing matter. The banana was soon sold for $120,000. To add to the madness around this work, the banana was eaten by another artist, David Dutuna. Afterwards, the work was simply replaced with another banana.

Secondly, we were a big fan of Marc Ange's 'Garden of Beauty'. He presented his 'Il Pavone' series here. A series of beautiful, sumptuous chairs that immediately bring you into a tropical atmosphere. You can immediately see from the shape and colours that the furniture was inspired by the graceful peacock. This furniture is both practical and decorative and is without a doubt the eye-catcher in any room.

A final project that immediately appealed to us was the gigantic curved swimming pool of the German Elmgreen & Dragset. They will place this sculpture at the Miami Beach Convention Center in front of the fair. The six-metre high sculpture literally resembles a swimming pool that has been folded into a 'U'. The artists created this work to draw attention to the climate crisis. 
It was difficult to choose between all the artists and projects. But these were the ones that stayed with us. We are looking forward to the next edition of the art fair! This will take place in Hong Kong from 19 to 21 March 2020. After that there will be an edition in Basel (18-21 June 2020) and 3-6 December 2020 the art fair will be back in Miami Beach.
