- Interior
A little over a year ago we met Maureen McDermott who, with her design agency, designs interiors that radiate serenity in their simplicity, but also convey warmth and cosiness. The recently completed project in Sag Harbor with a view of the bay is another wonderful example of this.
This residence for a family from Manhattan, New York offers everything you could wish for from a weekend and holiday home. Peace, serenity, comfort, space, light. "The style has a relaxed sophistication, which seems like such a contradiction but it works," explains interior designer Maureen McDermott. With her team from Winter McDermott Design, she was responsible for decorating a bare-boned new spec house. In addition to bespoke millwork in a few rooms, Winter McDermott also took care of reupholstering and repurposing some of the furniture already owned by the new owners of the house. They moved here from a condo in Southampton to be closes to the water. Moreover, with a 360° view of the Peconic Bay, the design was kept as neutral as possible in terms of colours and materials, so that the beautiful surroundings get all the attention they deserve.
Not a typical beach house, but a house that radiates a sophisticated simplicity.
However, we would also like to take a moment to put the spotlight on he family-friendly interior spaces where it's lovely to get together with friends and family. In addition to the natural light, many remarkable lighting elements with a very high decorative, even artistic, value are used throughout the house. We see designs by Kelly Wearstler, Roll and Hill, Palacek, Michael Anastassiades and Lindsey Adelman. The latter created the unique piece that hangs above the dining table and takes the whole space to higher spheres.
