Our partner ar-architects has already accomplished beautiful things in the past. They do this in the form of complete projects, but sometimes also in smaller concepts and / or expansions of established constructions. The design that we present today belongs to the second category.
This particular client asked ar-architects to arrange an extension that would be separated from the house itself. This resulted in a spacious pavilion that is accessible by walk through the garden. Important for the team was that both buildings would exist independently from each other, so it was decided to orientate the pavilion differently than the house itself. Furthermore, a lot of attention went into blurring the inside and outside border in the pavilion. Because of this, you see a wooden frame that seems to be enclosing the outdoor room and where glass panels are placed in between. The full wooden surfaces that you see, are pivoted panels that you can open up. Doing so, you do not have the feeling of working with a traditional door, but rather a mobile surface that highlights the spatiality and the entrance to the pavilion.
As far as the specific function of the interior space is concerned, there are several possibilities.
Not only the panels but also the materialisation makes the indoor and outdoor space seamlessly run into each other. For example, wood is omnipresent: both in the floor inside and outside as well as in the construction itself and the interior. In addition, the latter was provided by interior design studio TJIP. Another striking element is that the outdoor building was placed a little bit higher, which creates an interesting factor and strengthens the architecture. As far as the specific function of the interior space is concerned, there are several possibilities since ar-architecten considers it to be polyvalent. The client can choose to use the annex as an additional seating area or lounge, but a dining area or office would also be perfect ways to use the space. An additional advantage is that both a toilet and a shower have been concealed within the space, so this pavilion offers several possibilities and adds great value to the living experience. With this pavilion, ar-architecten has shown that an outbuilding need not be just an incidental or negligible aspect of a house. On the contrary, it can be an impressive construction that in itself can serve the residents and their guests in various ways. And in this case, it certainly does.
