- Interior
EJ Residence, designed by Right Angle Studio, is located along a quiet road on the outskirts of the city. The design of the duplex apartment aimed for a form of pure essentialism in everything, all the while highlighting its architectural qualities.
We already showed some inspiring projects from this Singapore-based interior design studio, which clearly illustrated the motifs in their portfolio. Designers Jay and Alex Liu aim to develop timeless, attractive spaces that can always be brought back to the essence of living. By searching for the perfect combination of light, simplicity and strength, they create an emotional and visual balance.
Each room exudes an understated, warm atmosphere
In practice, this vision is mainly translated into minimalist concepts, which is also the case in EJ Residence. In this apartment, it was important for the interior to fit into the green surroundings and for unnecessary forms and materials to be avoided as much as possible. The open layout blurs the boundaries between inside and outside while creating a sense of continuity. Key materials in the interior are ash wood, marble and limestone. This trio is complemented by a mix of modest furniture, creating a continuous dialogue between the living and dining rooms and the patio. A first notable piece is a refurbished B&B Italia Charles sofa, from the client's previous collection, which was reupholstered with outdoor fabric to demonstrate the object's durability. In the children's room, we find a floating cloud lamp, which was bought in New York. Finally, the entire home was given the perfect finishing touch with a host of artworks by Lim Tze Peng, Takashi Murakami and Nai Swee Leng. The studio's simple aesthetic is epitomised by an unobtrusive porch that overlooks the two-volume space and conceals the entrances to the public washroom and back house. The upper floor of the apartment houses the master bedroom and the study and children's rooms. Each room is carefully tailored to the lifestyle of the residents and exudes an understated, warm atmosphere, where the personality and style of the clients blend seamlessly with the architecture and interior design. Light and openness are the two features that best characterise this residence. The connection with the surroundings, thanks to the large windows, enhances the calm atmosphere and brings instant peace. This is another successful project by Right Angle Studio and is fully in line with their vision of living.
