Dutch design studio Studio Piet Boon took inspiration from the Caribbean island of Bonaire to design a family residence on the beach. A fusion of modern and traditional elements characterises the Beach Residence and the typical Caribbean villa style with the design studio's signature aesthetic.
The project, called Beach Residence, is located on the island of Bonaire and is a reference to the Caribbean way of life and is connected to the outdoors through panoramic views of the sea. The project was designed by the Dutch Studio Piet Boon, a global operating exterior, interior and product design studio. They are always looking for the perfect balance between functionality, aesthetics and individuality. 
Located on a sloping site between the street and the ocean, this project was designed in harmony with the context of the sea. The different floors form the structural identity of the design; a humble one-storey house along the street that opens up to a two-storey villa with a beautiful view of the beach. Wherever possible, Studio Piet Boon emphasised connecting spaces through materials and textures. This gave the design a coherent interior. Outside, the covered dining area on the large balcony gives way to a cosy place to gather with family and friends. In addition, small green hedges and palm trees in the backyard create the hotel feel desired by the clients. 
Thanks to a mix of traditional and modern elements and the covered terraces, inside and outside are strongly connected. In addition, the wooden terraces connect the house to the pier, strengthening the connection to the sea. The colour palette consists of dark wood, grey and white, which provides the ultimate backdrop for the beautiful views. Due to the proximity of the ocean, the villa was built using natural materials from the area. Wood and coral were used because they are resistant to salt air, require little maintenance and at the same time age beautifully. Studio Piet Boon designed this Beach Residence for a client who lives on this island all year round and still wanted a hotel feel. The idea behind this project was to design a home where every day of the year feels like a holiday. Once again, Studio Boon managed to realise a highly personalised residential project in a piece of untouched natural landscape layered with customised hotel luxury.
