This intriguing construction in Aegina, Greece was designed by ADD Architecture Studio. With innovative shapes and imaginative lines, they achieved an amazing result that would be named Aegina House. We are totally impressed by the layout of this holiday home and the extent to which the sea became a decisive part of the larger concept.
The heart of the house is the central patio, as it acted as a repeated starting point for designing the different rooms and levels. The house contains three primary zones: the lounge area, the master bedroom and the guest rooms. Since the location is a sloping site, the morphology of the patio follows the natural slope. This creates a building that runs along several terraces and outdoor seating areas. Another key point in the project is the fantastic swimming pool on the roof; from there you look straight out to the sea and at the same time you have the feeling that the water is visually extended. In addition, the bottom of the pool is the ceiling of the living room below, which creates a pleasant effect. Since the water filters the incoming daylight, the living space is always enveloped in a changing atmosphere. Furthermore, it is of course an unusual experience to see bodies swimming by above your head.

Something that the master bedroom and the guest rooms have in common is the curve in their construction. Each guest room is a residence in itself, but there is a continuous skylight connecting them. On the one hand, this provides a larger portion of daylight; on the other, it enhances the connection between the residents and the sky. Access to the master bedroom is on the third floor, where a sloping wall made of concrete leads to the private spaces. From this height, the view is of course great, although all areas of the house enjoy a wonderful perspective. For example, the living area was specifically designed with long dimensions to enhance the view of the sea. At the same time, the sliding doors create the ultimate transparency, ensuring that the difference between inside and outside is reduced to an absolute minimum. 
With Aegina House, ADD Architecture Studio has dealt with architecture in a wonderful way. The creative lines come together in an impressive whole and make the overall design stand out. We hope that the team will explore the direction of this kind of design more often in the future.
