- Interior
The American studio Kaemingk Design was called in to transform a home into a unique and modern retreat. The goal was to give LO House its own identity and soul, something that was missing from the previous interior. It became a timeless and stylish home that offers comfort through the years.
Kaemingk Design, based in Portland, USA, is known for its understated aesthetic that combines old details with more modern elements and focuses on authentic and timeless design. Embracing imperfections and a natural patina is central to the studio's approach. Whether the space is new or old, the team strongly believes in creating spaces that become more beautiful as they age. The studio has already built up a fine portfolio of high-end residential and commercial projects.
Following that approach, they also completed their LO House project, where they managed to create a unique and modern custom-made retreat. For the client, it was important to modernise the interior. For the rest, the studio was given free reign to completely remodel and furnish the interior of this sprawling house.
The finishes were influenced by Japanese and European design.
The project drew inspiration from the surrounding terrain. The lush trees and landscape provide the perfect backdrop for the home's more neutral and soothing colour palette. The aim of the design was to give the house its own identity and soul, something that was missing from the previous interior.
The rustic, natural and streamlined finishes were strongly influenced by Japanese and European design. The design combines a bold use of hard elements, such as steel and black tones, with softer elements, such as plaster and linen. The aim was to create a harmonious living environment for the young and stylish family. Together with the architectural surfaces, the furniture was chosen so that it would feel welcoming and architectural at the same time. The combination of oversized lounge furniture and custom-designed pieces strikes the perfect balance between comfort and style. Because the client has an affinity for art, interesting and eclectic pieces were selected to give the home a more personal feel.
Kaemingk Design chose a timeless design for the home that reflects the residents and offers style and comfort through the years.
