Alexander &CO succeeded in transforming this historic 1940s house into a magnificent cosy home. We are talking about the Darling Point House project in Sydney, Australia. The architect paid tribute to the house's past with an approach that blends contemporary with whether it fits into the context and story of each room.
After undergoing numerous small renovations, Alexander &CO decided that the best option was to demolish and rebuild the entire house, resulting in a sleek, elegant home with four bedrooms where old and new are perfectly balanced. Traditional details were combined with contemporary design, giving each room a different feeling. The different materials and nostalgic references in the interiors reinforce this feeling. Not only is the feeling of the past emphasised, contemporary Sydney life is also embodied.
This project perfectly balances elegance and sustainability.
From the living space, the French doors give you access to a tiled terrace that runs around the house and where you get the chance to dine in the open air. Inside and out, it is an inviting blend of European living and an elegance to say the least.
Although the interiors in this rebuilt house are brand new, they still give you an idea of the historical origins of the property without feeling outdated. So you could say that this style is quite timeless thanks to the elegant interior. This project perfectly balances elegance and durability to serve as an ideal long-term family home. In short: a contemporary classic if you ask us.
