- Art & Design
On the occasion of our upcoming art edition Imagicasa Art we like to put one of our top galleries in the spotlight: Gallery Paul Janssen. Together with his wife Sandy, Belgian Paul Janssen runs his gallery in the Rue de la Ponche in the heart of old Saint-Tropez. They guarantee the highest standards of connoisseurship, artistic judgment and ethics. They have built up a good reputation by exhibiting intellectually driven and unconventional art – from modern and post-war art to contemporary art, the Cobra movement and photography.
Paul and Sandy told Imagicasa about 2 artists they are very proud of: Isabelle Scheltjens and Marc Lagrange.
The Belgian artist Isabelle Scheltjens had an artistic nature from an early age. She studied at the Stedelijk Instituut voor Sierkunsten en Ambachten in Antwerp (SISA). After years of intensive practice and experimentation with glass, Isabelle developed her unique technique of 'glass fusing' (pieces of glass in different colours, textures and sizes are melted together at about 800°C). In this way, Isabelle creates phenomenal optical effects: from up close her artworks form an abstract image, from a distance an expressive portrait is created. Isabelle's works of art are unique. In just a few years she has gained worldwide admiration and respect and is internationally acclaimed by many an art lover.
The Belgian photographer Marc Lagrange was born in Kinshasa, Congo. His career led him from architecture to photography, and his creative talent from fashion to art. With his more than life-sized analogue photographs he shows us beautiful women, often erotically tinted, but at the same time with a magical vulnerability and an enormous dignity. His use of light and lines shows every woman at her very best. The atmosphere is that of a film set, baroque and luxurious. Lagrange has a preference for black and white photography, because this does not leave a mark on the photo and does not distract from what he wants to show. His work is an ode to beauty. Marc Lagrange is now considered one of the most renowned art photographers in Europe.
With Paul and Sandy representing such talented artists, Imagicasa believes it is certainly worth visiting their beautiful gallery. And it’s also a perfect excuse to escape the cold Belgian weather for a short holiday in the sun!
