Our partner BEO Architecten has transformed an old farmhouse in Sinaai, East Flanders, into a contemporary holiday home. They did this in collaboration with ABS Bouwteam. A balance was sought between the archetypal farmhouse on the one hand and an austere rear extension on the other.
BEO Architecten is a firm passionate about architecture, with the ambition of developing architecture in which the environment, space, light, use of materials and architectural detailing are the focus. Their style can be described as warm minimalism, which is characterised by a timeless architecture that they implant in the environment. In addition, there are some aspects that they find very important, such as functionality and comfort. These are necessary for livability and they find them very important, as well as warmth, cosiness, lifestyle, comfort and contact with the surroundings.
The typology and the beautiful view in the front and back garden formed the basis for the thorough renovation of this holiday home. Taking into account the authenticity of the farmstead, the renovation and extension meet today's requirements. The austere and timeless character of the extension creates a harmonious link between old and new. This link between old and new creates exciting contrasts between materialisation and form.

The exterior of the villa presents itself as a clever patchwork of classic and contemporary materials. This is thanks to the combination of the bald façade, wooden shutters, zinc drains, recuperated Boom roof tiles and exterior plastering in a concrete look. This look was continued inside for the floating staircase, the floor and the intermediate floor. An industrial touch was also added to the villa with the steel beams of the TV cabinet and the warm wooden kitchen, which are at the same time opposites considering materials. Thanks to the long driveway, a holiday feeling immediately hits you when you drive onto the plot. This feeling lingers around you throughout your stay thanks to the atmosphere that BEO Architecten managed to create.
