Two features are central to this apartment in Lviv. On one hand, you will experience a cosy atmosphere here that is mainly created by choosing a simple, dark colour palette; on the other hand, the interior also has plenty of lightness. We are happy to show you how that combination came about.
The interior designers at Ukrainian company Armz Studio believe that the environment has a strong influence on our lives and that our interiors therefore largely determine our mood. It is a vision they carried through to Project Zelena, a minimal apartment in Lviv, Ukraine, designed for a young couple. The clients' brief was quite simple: they wanted a cosy minimal home in a dark colour scheme. The team decided to create a monochrome matte base and dilute it with contrasting and interesting natural materials.
To make the interior very tactile, they used painted plaster on the walls and seamless microcement on the floor. Some walls in the bathroom are covered with black glossy tiles, creating an elegant atmosphere. Stained oak was chosen for much of the furniture. Two types of marble were also used, creating a certain ambience but not feeling too cool. The wooden chairs with base and back in braided sea grass, the jute rug, and linen cover on the sofa add simplicity and a bit of robustness. The rough metal from which the shelves are made also contributes to this. In turn, the smooth satin curtains add the necessary contrast.

A second feature of this interior, besides its dark elegance, is light. For general lighting, the interior designers chose LED strips mounted in the concrete ceiling along one wall of the room. Ample natural sunlight also enters each room of the apartment. The final touch is the decoration with handmade crockery and old Ukrainian vases.
The combination of different natural materials makes this interior physically and visually tactile. With just a few shades, a simple result is achieved with a lot of warmth and an elegant atmosphere. Images courtesy of Armz Studio
