This apartment in Sydney, Australia has a varied history, because it used to be an industrial storage space and it also went through a commercial function. Under the name NoMad, it was transformed into a residential oasis with strong urban hints. Those who live here in the middle of the city always have an amazing place to return to.
Soft on the eye and adventurous in nature, you can surely give such a description to this project. The team of Alexander &CO ensured that this office space was repurposed to a top apartment. The client desired an urban haven where calm moments complement life in the city to the perfect degree. The property was already blessed with beautiful proportions that hint at a gallery-like atmosphere. It was essential that the renovation would preserve this, and it was also of great importance that the living surface would be as big as possible. With three hundred square metres, there is no doubt that this is the case. Moreover, light incidence and white walls were some of the key characteristics. In the end, the studio presented a completely renewed narrative that holds on to the building’s history with exactly the right grip. The new result is a clear take on the idea of the kind of openness that you associate with a gallery. Ultimately, a total reevaluation of the layout resulted, among others, in a spacious living and dining area and kitchen, an entry hall, a dressing, three bedrooms, and two bathrooms. The concrete floor immediately gives a voice to the industrial background upon which this commission played out, while this typical brutality is balanced out with long curtains that introduce softness and privacy. Concerning furniture and decoration, the living area showcases several sculptural notes, such as the chair at the head of the dining table and the sofa. Even though the walls and the furniture do not really venture into daring directions but rather stay on neutral territory, the team incorporated more than sufficient areas of tension with decoration and details. That is to say, apart from the shaped pieces, you also see a number of striking artworks that immediately complete the whole and make it extra memorable.

Time stands still in here, which is thanks to the atmosphere that the spaces conjure collectively. By solely looking at the images, you experience the lingering calm that is laid to rest under a blanket of artistic fun. In addition, the typical loft feel guarantees the perfect opportunity to invite larger groups and accommodate a lot of people in the same room. Next, you can go to one of the bedrooms and enjoy a delightful night’s rest, with all the city’s virtues at your fingertips. Here again, the raw basis of the design is always complemented by the desired privacy and an orchestrated sculptural seasoning.
You feast your eyes here in NoMad, because every centimetre has been thought about. This industrial apartment underwent a renovation and now functions as a coveted residence in the middle of the city. A concrete basis received several layers that create homeliness and relaxation, but always with a though character in mind that is ideal for those who thrive in a bustling environment.
