In wintertime, it does not hurt to daydream about warmer climates. Today we present a project that could perfectly fit in those dreams. This visualisation of Ekaterina Amato revolves around interesting shapes, fine details and – yes – sand.
Ekaterina Amato lives in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic, and designs impressive 3D visualisations that show original interiors. The design that caught our eye carries the name Sand. As the name does suspect, Amato chose to base a considerable part of her project on the idea of sand. The result is a hotel bedroom that is located in the Moroccan desert. The designer says that she mainly based the project on the idea of sand replacing carpets and wooden floors. The specific bedroom that she created is part of a large hotel complex in which all rooms are connected by a large outdoor pool. According to her, this design answers the desire to live in the desert without missing out on comfort. We definitely go along with her idea. Amato challenged herself to incorporate the mysterious atmosphere of the Sahara desert in her design. Key characteristics here were the sun that heats up the sand and the air that is marked by a red dusty haze. In our eyes, she brilliantly succeeded in this mission. The visualisation images show a colour palette hat neatly fits into that of the desert, so think beige and yellow hues. The bedroom has two large windows through which you see directly at the desert, camels included. A few plants and trees support the illusion that you are spending time in the open air of the Sahara. Also, the material from the walls reminds of nature and wind. For example, one of the walls received a raw texture that is similar to the structure of a cave, and the colour palette remains the same shades as the rest of the room.

Not only sand, but also stone is an important inspiration for Amato. That is to say, her favourite element of the design are the built-in round shelves. These are based on the architecture of Petra, a historic city in Jordan. There they built with stone in a masterly way, something that Amato tries to honour in modern interiors. On those shelves we see fine ceramic pieces that fit perfectly in the rest of the room. A few majestic vases are shown off on the floor as well; together with the other ceramic pieces they create a cosy feel. Everything considered, this project resembles the image of a dream: a view on the desert, fine details and your feet in the sand. The project of Ekaterina Amato is one of few that presents something radically new. In this case, the designer does so in the form of sand as flooring. In the meantime, we remember her creative perspective and skill to transport nature inside.
