On the Alentejo coast in Portugal, there is an exceptional artists' community called Melides Art. This residential project includes thirty-four residences that serve as homes, studios and exhibition spaces. The high-end concept invites artists to exchange ideas and form a creative centre.
Melides Art consists of a large park with residences, pavilions, artists' studios, sports facilities and a spa. Additional amenities at the residences include a heated swimming pool, a sauna, a steam room, a housekeeper and an in-house chef. The community welcomes all types of artists: writers, musicians, designers, performers, etc., to create a vibrant cultural institution in this unique residential concept. The beautiful location, two kilometres from the coast, proves to be an inexhaustible source of inspiration for the residents.
A unique community that follows an unusual philosophy.
To build a house in the exclusive park, a number of guidelines must be followed. For example, you cannot build higher than two floors so as not to block the view of the surrounding nature. The layout of the park must also be respected. The regulations prevent chaotic building and guarantee the preservation of the surrounding landscape.
The community works closely with London-based Thurstan Interior Design Studio on the interior of the homes and facilities. Thurstan has a personal approach in which he uses antique furniture. His interiors are often called eclectic because of the unique furniture pieces and art combined with sand-coloured walls and floors. One material that undoubtedly dominates is wood. The brown colours of wooden furniture and sand colours give his buildings a warm, sunny atmosphere. From the interior design to the organisation of all the buildings and facilities, Melides Art is a unique community that follows an unusual philosophy. Creativity is given free rein in the luxurious park.
