The Cube Hotel is an architectural masterpiece designed by Chinese firm SU Architects. It is located in the Mogan Mountain International Tourism Resort and overlooks the Yangtze River. The design of the hotel is inspired by a Rubik's cube.
The construction of Cube Hotel was given a number of guidelines, as a result it was decided to shape the building like a cube. SU Architects’ inspiration for the design of the building is one of the most famous cubes ever: the Rubik’s cube. It consists of twenty-seven small cubes that are connected to each other in the centre. Cube Hotel is divided into three floors or three layers with almost complete glass walls on each layer. In the centre of the hotel there is a spiral staircase that connects the ground floor, the first and second floors. The ground floor is the public area with a reception, restaurant, swimming pool and seating. The first and second floors consist of 6 bedrooms. Cube Hotel is located in beautiful surroundings. There is a view of Mogan Mountain and the Yangtze River. The stunning surroundings are made part of the bedrooms through enormous glass walls.

The inside of the Cube Hotel is sober, with strong lines such as the sloping line of the spiral staircase and the straight lines of the furniture that run along the glass walls in the bedrooms. The colour palette is rather dark on the ground floor and light with beige, wood tones and white in the private rooms. Although the cube as a shape is not new, SU Architects’ interpretation of a cube is refreshing. Surprising elements are the volume at the bottom that is not perfectly aligned and the skylight that illuminates the spiral staircase. SU Architects know how to make a shape like the cube interesting. Xuguo Tang
