The RiM House, designed by studio RM Arquitectura together with studio Rimirim, is located a few meters from the north coast of the island of Mallorca. The project is located in a wooded area with pines, holm oaks and wild olive trees. The aim was to integrate an avant-garde house with its surroundings.
RM Arquitectura, founded in 2004, focuses on the development of projects in architecture and interior design. Thanks to their specific knowledge, they complete each project in all its phases: design, execution and reception. RM Arquitectura takes on the most complex projects, adapted to the latest construction techniques, and always succeeds in capturing essential ideas of the architect in the work.
Only a few interior pieces to not overload the rooms combined with natural materials.
The architects of RM Arquitectura together with the interior design studio Rimirim have developed this special project called RiM House. The team, consisting of Verónica Montijano and Gabriel Rechach, had the idea of adapting the building to its surroundings, keeping traditional architecture with a nod to the avant-garde and finishing it with local materials. In the facade, cross-shaped openings serve a dual purpose: they look aesthetically pleasing and promote air circulation in the house through a system of vertical slats. The residence consists of an aligned arrangement of different volumes. The first volume is a cube completely covered with marés stone (a calcarenite from Majorca) that forms the entrance zone to the outdoor terrace. Here, all facilities concerning the swimming pool and the outdoor kitchen will be housed. Studio Rimirim decorated the house with the principle of adapting to the environment; using wood for the furniture and lighting and linen for the textiles. The interior spaces are open and very spacious, giving a feeling of freshness. To compensate this feeling, every corner of the house is made more pleasant and cosy, such as the use of curtains in natural fabrics such as linen. Decorative lamps provide the rooms with warmth and a homely and family feeling. In addition, the colour palette consists of neutral tints. In short, RiM House is open to the outside for the summer months and at the same time sheltered for the colder winter months. Photography by Tomey Canyellas
