- Art & Design
Are you an avid art lover and keen to expand your collection? Then we recommend taking a look at Gardeco Objects, an art publisher specialising in handmade decorative design objects. The founders, Sonja Crevits and Jan Simaey, take you on a journey of exclusive craft that will make your design heart beat faster. They specially selected for us this inspiring collection by renowned Belgian product designer, Stefan Schöning.
Gardeco Objects has one magnificent goal: to introduce art and design to a wider audience. And since we also strive to bring the most impressive pieces to every reader, we get very excited by their intention. The founding duo works internationally with exclusive interior shops, renowned museum shops, art galleries, architects and interior designers. Through these avenues, they come into contact with beautiful work made from Africa to America in small family studios by skilled artisans. These use traditional production methods and combine them with contemporary experimental approaches to obtain truly one-of-a-kind results. Moreover, Crevits and Simaey ensure with an overseeing eye that each Gardeco Objects product is shaped ethically.
The designer's fantastic sense of simplicity
In addition to international artists, Gardeco Objects naturally likes to highlight domestic talent. Although Belgian designer Stefan Schöning has long since made a name for himself with his well-known folder Chair, the creative soul keeps reinventing himself. He proved this several times already, such as in 2005, when he designed the new house style for the Belgian national railways. Although his minimalist touch remains the common thread in his designs: ‘To keep the world free of clutter and excess, I like to keep my designs simple. If you draw a line, it should replace all other superfluous lines,’ he says.
The designer's fantastic sense of simplicity also extends to this Langkawi collection. The series pays homage to the global tradition of masks and, indeed, is named after the Malaysian island where the artisans who crafted this collection with precise carving live. The anthropomorphic design exudes rhythm by breaking with symmetry yet finding rectilinearity and regularity in asymmetry. The works exude pure emotion and each has its own character. This is why they were given the following names: Eclipse, Elephant, Offspring, Sunrise and Toucan. They even made a bronze variant of the latter. Would you like to see this collection in person? Then be sure to contact Gardeco Objects and be amazed by the details that are only visible to the naked eye. Images courtesy of Gardeco
