With Whispers of the Wildwood, The Wicker Story presents a new collection that appears to emerge straight from nature. The India-based design studio, led by Priyanka Narula, draws inspiration from observations in the landscape: winding rivers, leafy canopies, grasses swaying in the wind and the layered textures of bark and branches. These impressions are translated into hand-woven objects in which cane and wickerwork take centre stage. Each piece is crafted by skilled artisans and approaches nature not as a decorative motif, but as a structural point of departure.
With this collection, Priyanka Narula places classical weaving techniques in a new context through free-form silhouettes and refined detailing. Dramatic curves do not follow fixed geometries, but seem to arise from spontaneous movement. The colour palette remains close to the material itself, with tones ranging from light honey hues to deep moss green.
Straight from nature
The Flowering Vines installation takes its cue from the complexity of flowers and their underlying structures. The project consists of simple, modular elements that together form a light sculpture. By basing the composition on principles also found in nature, a system emerges that can easily be adapted to different spaces. The installation can grow, shift or condense, depending on the context. Here, light is not merely functional, but acts as a connective element between object and space.
The Pagdandi Wall Unit, also described as a meandering wall cabinet, follows the rhythm of water fi nding its way through the landscape. The curved lines in natural cane create alternating open and enclosed zones for storage and display. Variations in width generate areas that adapt to what they hold. Light moves through the open structure, casting intriguing shadows.
The Bark Bench refers to the layered development of tree bark, where dark and light alternate and flowing lines have no fixed beginning or end. The object appears to merge with its surroundings while simultaneously asserting a clear presence of its own.
