In Tarzana, on the outskirts of Los Angeles, there is a home that offers a deliberate retreat from the pace and visual intensity of Southern California. Designed as a place for rest and reflection, its references are European, with a clear nod to Tuscany, yet the translation is precise and contemporary.
The home is the full-time residence of a creative couple from the entertainment industry, who live here with their two children and three dogs. After moving from Malibu, the focus shifted away from views or spectacle towards comfort. This mindset led to the deliberate choice to place all living spaces on a single level, while still maintaining a clear separation between communal and private areas. The architectural style can be described as ‘American Craftsman’, a style well known in the inner regions of the U.S.A., inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement of the late nineteenth century. Logical circulation and a strong sense of connection between spaces give the home an almost intuitive flow. 
The interior design and construction were fully realised by Lidan Sfadia and Edward Grigoryan. For Grigoryan, design is closely tied to his background in real estate, which began at an early age. He learned how to analyse homes, evaluate choices and — most importantly — recognise mistakes. The difficult renovation of his parents’ home in 2022 proved to be a turning point. ‘It didn’t go so well. I made a lot of mistakes and from that point on, I started to learn from them. I made it a goal to design and plan to the best of my ability from the mistakes I had made in the past’, explains Grigoryan. ‘That is what truly made me love what I do’.
To successfully complete a project, the interior designer emphasises the importance of maintaining a holistic vision of the home: ‘I like to work only with natural materials and ensure projects to look timeless, regardless of what style the house may be’. By not committing to a single style, the strengths of the home were embraced and enhanced in the final design. 
European influences
European references are clearly present throughout the house. Tuscany served as an emotional starting point, valued for its calming and meditative atmosphere. This inspiration manifests in tangible ways. Climbing plants on limestone façades evoke Italian villas. In the garden, olive trees imported from Napa stand proudly, while the perimeter fence is scented with the aromas of rosemary. Inside, southern charm is translated into tumbled limestone floors in the entryway and hand-crafted Moroccan clay tiles in the bathrooms. Iron doors and windows, paired with brass shower doors, reinforce the artisanal character.
