In the serene landscape of Hansbeke, where centuries-old barns adorn the fields and nature follows its own rhythm, HUIS HA is rising: a project that makes the essence of tranquillity and beauty tangible in a modern context. Inspired by the charm of these traditional agricultural structures, YAMA Architects, working closely with interior designer Nathalie Deboel, has created a design that feels like a natural extension of the landscape. It is a house that does not just stand in its surroundings, but is truly part of them.
HOUSE HA respects the lineage of the local heritage with gently sloping roofs that intertwine with the surroundings. This architectural nod to the past is refined by a contemporary aesthetic in which space, light and material form a deliberate harmony. The structure itself seems almost breathable due to the transparency and openness woven into it by YAMA. This sense of permeability subtly connects occupants to the world around them, organically blurring the boundary between inside and outside. Every detail of this design has been thought through to be in balance with nature without dominating it.
The use of wood, stone and glass in HUIS HA enhances the tactile character of the building. Each material has been carefully chosen to create a pure, earthy aesthetic. Stone and wood add depth and reflect the natural environment, while glass provides a light, transparent skin, allowing an almost fluid transition between the indoor and outdoor spaces. The result is a refined symphony of materials that allows occupants to feel a deep connection to nature, not as spectators, but as participants in the beauty of the landscape. HOME HA is not just a home; it is a space that lives and breathes with the seasons. The landscaping around the house is designed so that the play of light and shadow adds a dynamic dimension. Each sunrise or dusk tells a different story, a snapshot in which light traverses the spaces, revealing new perspectives each time. This rhythmic interaction between light and shadow makes every moment unique and enhances the timeless atmosphere of the house.

The interior design led by Nathalie Deboel emphasises intimacy, warmth and harmony. She manages to seamlessly translate the rustic charm of the exterior into the interior, with a timeless simplicity that gives the house a personal and intimate feel. Her design approach reflects the philosophy of HUIS HA: minimalism that radiates warmth, and simplicity that carries through to the smallest details. This connection is reinforced by a layout that makes each space purposeful, tailored to its occupants and with a constant dialogue between inside and outside. YAMA Architects, founded by Stan Guldemont and Lawrence Schietgat, have taken their signature style of simplicity and harmony with the landscape to new heights in HUIS HA. Every element in the design has been reduced to its essence, so there is no excess, just a pure and serene environment that reflects the soul of the place. Their vision is a combination of architectural integrity and respect for the human scale, a space where the occupant feels at home and where the architecture enhances the environment, rather than overshadowing it. HOME HA invites peace and contemplation. The vision of YAMA and Deboel flows together in a house that is much more than a place to live. It is a place that invites connection, with nature, with the past and with one's own inner self. In this symbiosis of architecture and landscape, HUIS HA has its own rhythm, a timeless place that reminds us of the power of simplicity, beauty and the ongoing dialogue between man and nature.
