- Interior
This project in Hong Kong combines breathtaking views with an interior that reflects tranquillity, connection and family ties. Located high above the city, the flat offers a rare panorama of Victoria Harbour, the surrounding mountains and the skyline of skyscrapers. This view forms the starting point for the design, which focuses on harmony between nature, the view and everyday life.
Upon entering the lift lobby, one immediately senses the calm, natural atmosphere. Warm earth tones of sand, mud and walnut, combined with subtle leaf motifs on the walls, create an organic and inviting ambiance. The light from asymmetrically placed Flos wall lamps accentuates the textures and enhances the feeling of comfort. The interior translates architectural lines and angles into flowing, rounded shapes that radiate movement and continuity, visible from the door of the private lift to the passageways between the communal areas.
Three wooden arches, inspired by the Minnan architecture of Fujian where the family has its roots, connect the foyer with the dining room, kitchen and living room. They create rhythm, intimacy and structure, while subtly referencing heritage. Under the first arch is a niche with three sheep sculptures, symbolising the three generations living together in the house. The second arch leads to the kitchen and dining area, and the third to the living room and study, which is used multifunctionally as a playroom, guest room or music studio. Fluted glass doors provide privacy without restricting light or sightlines.
A calligraphy scroll offers a daily reminder of inner peace
In the living room, spirituality takes on a tangible presence through a life-size wooden statue of Guanyin. The natural colours of the wood complement the overall palette of the house, which combines earth tones and jade-like accents. The dining room is the heart of the family, with a round marble table that promotes comfort and interaction, illuminated by an alabaster pendant lamp. The kitchen, equipped with an elegant Arclinea system, supports intensive cooking while remaining organised and aesthetic.
The bedrooms are thoughtfully designed. The master bedroom is a serene retreat, with rounded shapes, soft materials and views of the sea and mountains. A calligraphy scroll with the Buddhist message 心無掛礙 (‘free from attachment’) offers a daily reminder of inner peace. The second bedroom is playful and secure, with curved furniture and light accents that combine personality and functionality. The bathrooms complete the design: terrazzo, walnut and rounded elements create functional yet soothing spaces, including built-in benches and practical handles.
From the impressive views to the smallest details, this flat embodies harmony, comfort and connection. Each element has its place and contributes to a home that is both elegant and meaningful, where heritage, spirituality and modern living come together.
