Interior designer Hugo Toro has a strong passion for Art Deco, which is once again evident in the restaurant he recently designed. Thanks to his choice of both luxurious and raw materials, he managed to create a powerful concept. We’d like to take you through his design style. PUR' is, in fact, a unique blend of authenticity and sophistication.
Hugo Toro, a versatile artist, architect, and interior designer with Mexican-French roots, has built an impressive portfolio at just 33 years old. With a dual master's degree from Los Angeles and Vienna, and as a graduate of the prestigious Penninghen school in Paris, he is among the leading designers of his generation. His creative signature can be found in renowned projects such as Gigi Ramatuelle, Gigi Paris, the Midland Dining Room in London, and Villa Albertine in New York. From an early age, the architect had a fascination for building and designing, with an eye for the smallest details. His work reflects a blend of influences from both sides of the Atlantic, with a strong preference for the Art Deco period. He admires the precise detailing of Austrian architect Otto Wagner and the innovative use of color and texture by Mexican architect Luis Barragán. These sources of inspiration are evident in his projects, where craftsmanship and artistry go hand in hand.
With the reopening of the Michelin-starred restaurant PUR' at the luxurious Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme, Hugo Toro has once again demonstrated his creative genius. Guided by his artistic vision, the restaurant has been transformed into an elegant and intimate space that embodies the essence of Parisian refinement. The new design is an ode to the 1930s, featuring a combination of raw and luxurious materials such as wood, marble, and lacquer. The warm tones and carefully selected details create an inviting atmosphere where guests feel immediately at home. One of the most striking features of the new design is the imposing eight-meter-high open fireplace, a symbol of hospitality and conviviality. Additionally, the library, with its ambient lighting and art books, offers an intimate ambiance, while the Winter Garden, adorned with Murano glass chandeliers, adds a touch of glamour.
At PUR', every detail tells a story of elegance, craftsmanship, and passion
PUR' is not only a visual spectacle but also a culinary masterpiece led by Michelin-starred chef Jean-François Rouquette. His cuisine, inspired by nature and the seasons, perfectly aligns with Hugo Toro's philosophy: a fusion of authenticity and refinement. Every detail, from the tableware to the table setting, has been designed by Toro with the aim of elevating the dining experience to the next level.
‘The cuisine at PUR' finally has the setting it deserves,’ says Rouquette. Thanks to the thoughtful spatial layout and refined design, guests can enjoy an intimate and dynamic dining experience. PUR' at Place Vendôme is more than just a restaurant; it is a destination where art, architecture, and gastronomy merge into a harmonious experience.
