At this point in history, it seems almost impossible to do things differently. ‘The world demands that we constantly be superhuman, while time challenges us to slow down, and our minds often work against us,’ says Studio KP2. Yet, therein lies the key to transformation: breaking free from the current rhythm and rediscovering the beauty of encounters – whether with oneself or others.
Studio KP2 challenges the world to slow down and shift its focus to what truly matters. Where time and space fade away, leaving only the present moment. Face-to-face with another person or oneself, in contemplation, in silence, in deep connection. It is about simple yet meaningful experiences: the sensation of weightlessness, unhurried conversations, sensory awareness, and the intimacy of togetherness. True transformation lies here. Not in what is visible to all, but in the small, almost imperceptible details. The design firm embodies this vision by showing that it is always possible to be different. This concept is beautifully expressed in a house located in the rural area just outside Medellín. Although the available space is limited and there are no remarkable views to take advantage of, the home becomes a retreat in itself. Two stacked levels embrace a central courtyard that forms the heart of the home’s social life. The ground floor, a robust volume of board-formed concrete, welcomes visitors into a double-height living room. This space opens onto the courtyard and connects the social areas. On the rooftop terrace, a V-shaped concrete column diving into the pool draws attention, reinforcing the design’s solid and monumental character.
True transformation lies in the small, almost imperceptible details
At the center of the home, an elegant wooden spiral staircase leads to the upper floor. Here, a naturally lit hallway separates the master bedroom from the secondary bedrooms. The vertical rhythm of a series of concrete columns on the facade creates a play of light and shadow throughout the day, emphasizing the architectural character of the house. The home exudes a powerful and tangible presence, with concrete and steel providing a solid foundation. Simultaneously, wooden interior elements introduce a warm and almost ethereal ambiance. This contrast between robustness and refinement enhances the experience of the house as a space of intimacy and beauty. This project, imbued with simplicity and attention to detail, serves as a reminder that being different is not only possible but also necessary. In the nuances – in the small, quiet moments – lies the true essence of life. Herein lies the power of change. Design by @solidos @studiokp2_
