- Art & Design
Gobo Lights is the great pride of Nicolas Brevers, a self-taught artist who traded the world of chemistry for lighting design and manufacture. He built his meticulous craftsmanship himself, which shows the depth of his passion for his work.
Yet Nicolas Bevers did not leave the laboratory completely behind, as his lighting creations rely on geometry and shapes that immediately bring to mind atoms. A clean interplay of lines punctuates all the collections the studio has on offer, while the rational and the emotional are united in a functional idea. Here, precision is perhaps the most significant yardstick. Indeed, his lighting is created during a search for a balance in which purity and lightness have a dialogue. Moreover, with its wide range of products, the studio stands at a crossroads between design, architecture and art, as the pieces do not allow themselves to be categorised one-dimensionally.
All stages of the creation process are carried out in the studio, ensuring unceasingly the best guarantee of quality. On top of that, they provide tailor-made lighting, so the team can truly provide pieces in any room that best match the spatial dimensions and interior. Customers can choose to have any design within the collections customised to their liking. Another asset is the way the studio merges traditional methods with new technologies.
The chosen geometric and curved shapes an ode to simplicity
In terms of materials, Brevers is a lover of brass and glass, among others, as the latest collection also proves by featuring only these two materials. He sees these designs as an ode to simplicity, which the geometric and curved shapes indeed make clear, explaining that art deco served as a valuable source of inspiration.Furthermore, the studio maintains several collaborations with experts from various fields, such as artist duo Mira and potter Marie Brisart. These cross-pollinations resulted in the Törö collection and a selection of table lamps, respectively. There is therefore no doubting the many possibilities offered by lighting.
Ranging from the vision and craft behind the designs to the high quality and stimulating creativity contained in the results, Gobo Lights scores high on all counts and is sure to have other successes in the future.
