The heydays of furniture design – a.k.a. Milan Design Week – are over, but we are still enjoying the beautiful designs and interiors that were on display. At the same time, we are also quite busy planning how to recreate the entire Carl Hansen & Søn exhibition stand at our home or in the office. Should the fair have awarded a prize for the most beautiful exhibition stand, we have a very good idea who should have been the winner.
Aptly named 'The Oasis', the Danish manufacturer of many iconic furniture designs created a soothing and serene environment in which to present their collections to the public. The stand was perceived to be a translation of Carl Hansen & Søn's values, being meaningful design, uncompromising craftsmanship and respect for natural materials. The British design company SevilPeach Architecture + Design was responsible for the envisioning. With an architectural curtain, the stand was divided into different zones, each of which highlights a different part of the collection or brand.

The ‘Vitrines’ on the outside put a spotlight on the newest pieces. Behind the curtain were two 'Craftmanship' zones, where visitors could learn more about the process behind the creation of the furniture and about the DNA of Carl Hansen & Søn. A live demonstration showed how craftsmanship and high-quality materials lead to a timeless product.
The literal and figurative highlight was located on the mezzanine of the stand, which you reached via a beautifully curving staircase. This space was designed as a relaxing
Should it exist, Carl Hansen & Søn deserves the award for the most beautiful and relaxing exhibition stand at Salone del Mobile 2019.
Described by the furniture manufacturer in a nutshell: “The aim is that visitors will leave feeling revitalized and inspired, with a better understanding of true craftsmanship and what it means to invest in iconic design skilfully brought to life from the highest quality materials.” We feel enormously inspired by it and are happy to give well-deserved credit to this kind of originality!
