In southern Spain, where light is a constant companion almost all year round, a home unfolds that thoughtfully explores the relationship between architecture and landscape. Set amidst vast olive groves in Sotogrande lies Round House, a project that does not merely occupy its site but engages in a clear interaction with it. The house stands on a powerful horizontal platform and provides a framework from which the surroundings can be experienced in all directions.
Behind this project is mata estudio, a practice that operates at the intersection of architecture, interior design and the arts. Their work is based on the idea that spaces can tell stories and that materials, forms and light play a decisive role in this. With a strong anchoring in Mediterranean culture and a distinct attention to detail, the studio translates this vision into projects that combine sensitivity with technical precision. From this approach, Round House takes shape as a thoughtful response to its context. 
The house is supported by six pillars anchored in the ground, which bear the weight of a roof structure that filters light into the interior. This design creates a sense of openness that is enhanced by the panoramic views. The indoor and outdoor spaces flow seamlessly into one another, partly through a swimming pool that extends into the landscape and follows the gentle slope of the site. The architecture invites a way of living that is strongly connected to the surroundings.
Natural stone steps provide a gradual transition to the entrance and reinforce the sense of arrival
The use of materials plays an essential role in the experience of the house. Concrete forms the basis and is finished in various ways. At the bottom, it has a rougher texture that allows vegetation to grow, whilst the upper sections appear smoother and more refined. Large glass panels blur the boundary between interior and exterior. At the same time, natural stone steps provide a gradual transition to the entrance and reinforce the sense of arrival. 
Inside, a spacious living area with a versatile character unfolds. On the other side of the house are bedrooms with private patios that provide light and privacy. A central bathroom is given a unique design with a circular courtyard garden that serves as a quiet retreat. In this home, living is approached as an intimate experience, where tranquillity, balance and mindfulness of the moment take centre stage.
