In a residential neighbourhood of Montreal, a characterful home has undergone a carefully considered renovation that brings its existing qualities to the fore once again. The intervention respects the familiar layout of the house whilst enhancing the experience of each space. Upon entering, a chequerboard marble floor immediately sets the tone. The oval shape of the front façade is echoed in the bespoke design of the entrance hall, where seating and storage respond to the home’s existing character.
The refurbishment was carried out by Vives St-Laurent, a studio renowned for its thoughtful approach to interior architecture. Led by Laurence Ouimet-Vives and Lysanne St-Laurent, the team develops projects in which form and function are carefully balanced. Based on this vision, the home has been given a new interpretation that respects the existing framework whilst responding to contemporary expectations. 
In the living areas, the emphasis is on tranquillity and cohesion. The sitting room features bespoke cupboards that frame the fireplace and lend a sense of visual structure to the space. Large windows create a strong connection with the surroundings and allow daylight to penetrate deep into the interior. The refurbished light oak parquet reinforces that sense of openness and adds a fresh touch without detracting from the soul of the home. The staircase has also been updated with subtle changes that blend discreetly into the overall design.

The kitchen is still located at the rear and has been conceived as a functional space with a distinct aesthetic. A dark door provides a striking contrast to the lighter materials and creates a direct link to the outdoor space. A compact bathroom has been concealed beneath the staircase, integrated almost invisibly into the wall finish. 
On the upper floor, a more intimate atmosphere unfolds. The master bedroom features an en-suite bathroom. Here glass doors filter the light and provide pleasant privacy, whilst a wide washbasin and a spacious shower enhance the sense of luxury. The whole project reflects a consistent approach, in which every detail contributes to a harmonious end result.
