Chirping crickets, lapping waves and a rustling breeze; three blissful sounds that instantly catapult you back to heavenly summers under the Spanish sun. Delightful, right? Viraje Arquitectura, a primal Spanish architecture firm, specialises in incorporating warmth, tranquillity and togetherness into beautiful interiors.
Located in the small fishing town of Moraira, where historic buildings alternate with gourmet luxury, lies Can Bau. The property surrounded by beautiful nature immediately caught the eye of Viraje Arquitectura. Together with Paloma Bau Studio, they decided to give it a sublime transformation. Pearly white walls now make the property shine more than ever. The summer residence is not just a family home, but a co-house project where three families can stay. The experts made the house sparkle as a meeting place where living in the here and now is central. The designers chose to create two different zones: a night part and a day part. The night area comprises three double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and a children's bedroom. Austerity and minimalism enhance the grandeur of the units. The daytime area consists of bright, open spaces such as the living room, kitchen, veranda, and swimming area. The green trees, wicker materials and shimmering water make you feel completely disconnected from the outside world. By using simple but solid materials, the house forms a whole of purity and emotion. Pottery and concrete alternate with stone and airy wicker. Sand tones, neutral furniture and natural textures also bring the necessary softness. The entire interior is shaped by lime mortar and some pieces of furniture were made in white microcement.

By taking into account the surrounding nature, the house seems to completely blend into its surroundings. ‘Nature and habitat are part of the project from the first contact,’ state the architects. Therefore, they also felt it was important to make the exterior flow seamlessly into the interior. The façade made of lime mortar cladding and natural stone helps to achieve this. Ultimately, the whole forms a haven of peacefulness and delicate particularity where family takes centre stage.
