From the Belgian designers of Minus, you can expect exceptional quality and refined craftsmanship. Personal experience and the individuality of the owners also come out beautifully in this family residence. What was originally an old barn was transformed into unique spaces with a minimalist appearance.
In all homes that the team of Minus designs, the essence of living and functionality form the two most important conditions. This results into living environments that surprise with their simplicity and timelessness. For a family with four children, the interior architects from Poperinge, Belgium, transformed this old barn near Lille, France, into a surprising family home. The old structure was restored, and the architecture was designed in such a way that it accentuates the beautiful masonry vaults. To reinforce this effect, all walls were painted in a dark colour. In this old part, the entrance, office, and home cinema were located. Next to the old barn, a new wing was designed, detached from the barn, in which the kitchen and living area received a place. Contrary to the old part, a light colour palette was chosen here. All walls were given a white shade so that light and spaciousness prevail. The large loft naturally fits that line of thinking. The floor and ceiling in wood add a warm touch to the whole. All functions in the kitchen were hidden as much as possible behind large sliding surfaces.
The staircase to the first floor is located behind the kitchen. In the night hall, finally, you have a beautiful view through to the kitchen. Sleek lines rule throughout the interior and ensure a feeling of simplicity, but thanks to the use of wood, the whole does not feel cold. By only choosing quality materials and with a strong eye for detail, a timeless result was created that the family will be able to enjoy for years to come. Photography by Cafeine
