- Interior
Our partner Artique effortlessly mixes old and new styles. Daphné Callemeyn, the creative mind behind this Belgian design company, is known for making sophisticated interiors that combine old and new elements. Her motto, ‘Every idea has a past… and every past has a new future,’ shows how she likes to use both old and new in her projects.
Callemeyn's surprising designs for country-style homes always manage to impress. Her ideas take you back in time but promise modern comfort too. According to her vision, it is essential that people feel at home in her designs. She mainly works on total renovations, turning old houses into true gems. Craftsmanship is central in this portfolio, which is expressed through including unique furniture that makes spaces look better. Artique works with Het Atelier, the studio of Miguel Vantomme, who is Callemeyn's husband.
There was the challenge of incorporating an old cabinet with sentimental value
This recent project is an example of the company’s unique design language. The hallway is the main zone; a deliberate choice by the client for a quiet place to relax. In the kitchen, you have a stretched-out view of the lovely garden. On your left, there is a large table that invites cozy dinners and long talks. The table, connected to the kitchen island, is perfect for coffee moments with a great view. On the right side of this area, there is a warm fireplace that makes the place even more appealing. You can easily move from the dining table to a comfy seating area, which is again surrounded by a fireplace and a view of the garden. The whole feels warm, with a mix of colours blending nicely. There was the challenge of fitting an old cabinet with sentimental value into the design. Eventually, the piece was placed in the hallway for everyone to see when arriving or leaving. The colours include small blue bricks in the entrance, red rust for an old-style touch, and a mix of antique and modern rustic furniture. Artique's main message with this project is clear: every idea has a past, and every past offers a new future. Callemeyn manages to surprise people by mixing the present and the past in unique ways. She blends authentic elements with modern functionality, keeping her own serene style. The result is a charming mix of rural style and a touch of 'Paris chic.' Images © Artique
