In the heart of Cannes' hinterland, tucked between cypress trees and vineyards, lies a place where time seems to slow down: La Bastide Saint François. What was once an agricultural mill was given a new lease of life as a luxurious private residence with subtle references to the Provençal soul. Behind this metamorphosis is the French architect duo Caprini & Pellerin, who managed to preserve authenticity without falling into nostalgia.
Caprini & Pellerin, based in Cannes, is known for its architecture that combines modernity with local traditions. The firm consists of more than 50 professionals and focuses on exclusive residential and hospitality projects. Their approach starts from a deep respect for the environment, craft and history. The renovation of La Bastide Saint François shows their signature: customisation, finesse and an instinctive understanding of how space and atmosphere influence each other.
The challenge in this conversion lay not only in the condition of the building, but also in its architectural constraints: low ceilings, limited light and a fragmented layout. Through thorough structural interventions, including excavating the ground floor and repositioning the staircase, they managed to create an open and logical circulation. Large windows and clever openings now provide an abundance of natural light. What used to feel enclosed and dark is today light, open and thoughtfully connected.
The home's atmosphere is the result of a sophisticated balance between rough-and-tumble and refinement.
The home's atmosphere is the result of a sophisticated balance between rough-and-tumble and refinement. Original elements such as wrought-iron details and wooden beams were retained or replaced with reclaimed materials, including antique parquet floors and an imposing fireplace from the eighteenth century. Each room bears the traces of craftsmanship: from the hand-sculpted sinks to the custom-made furniture, carefully positioned in service of the whole. The ground floor houses, among other things, a lounge with billiards and bar, to encourage togetherness. Outside, a covered terrace with outdoor kitchen beckons, designed for long summer evenings.
Throughout the project echoes an unmistakable attention to detail and atmosphere, reaffirming Caprini & Pellerin's mastery of redefining heritage in a contemporary context. Villa Bastide is designed with togetherness in mind, both in intimate settings and with friends, family and children as guests. Not a single moment is lost here.
