An apartment in Kyiv with a Parisian flair demonstrates how refined living and personal character can enhance one another. In this project by He.D group, a compact urban home is given a distinct identity, in which classical influences and contemporary choices complement one another in a subtle way. The home, situated in a new residential complex in the Podil district, was designed for a couple and their dog.
He.D group was founded by designer Daria Loban and Yevhenii Hluhovskyi, who are known for their attention to detail and their sense of spatial narratives. For this project, the team was given a great deal of freedom by the residents, which provided scope to explore and further develop various ideas. That openness forms the basis for a design that is not only functional but also closely attuned to the couple’s daily life. 
The original layout of the flat has been completely redesigned. At the heart of the home lies an open-plan living area that serves as a central gathering place. The traditional TV area has been replaced by a decorative fireplace with a large vintage mirror above it. This feature not only adds atmosphere but also gives the space extra depth. The kitchen was deliberately kept compact, as the residents rarely cook elaborate meals. A bar unit here provides an informal spot for conversations and quiet moments at home.

As both residents often work from home, the workspace aspect received a great deal of attention. One of the workspaces was fitted out as a fully-fledged studio for a jewellery designer, with soft tones and light woods that bring calm during the creative process. The second workspace was subtly integrated into a bookcase in the living area and meets the needs of an IT professional. 
The interior is characterised by an interplay of French classical references and a more eclectic approach. Classical mouldings and symmetrical accents are reworked into a contemporary language, combined with natural stone, wood and refined ceramic surfaces. The burgundy velvet sofa forms a striking visual accent in the living area and lends the whole a distinct emotional undertone. According to Daria Loban, the result feels like a Parisian home with the energy of Kyiv: elegant, personal and full of character.
