- Art & Design
Galerie Suzan began modestly as an Instagram account, where Clément Robert shared his love of design and craftsmanship in 2019. What was initially an online space for showcasing his aesthetic preferences has now grown into a full-fledged gallery dedicated entirely to the new generation of French artisans and artists. This transformation reflects Robert's commitment to promoting craft art and design in France.
Clément Robert, the founder and driving force behind Galerie Suzan, grew up with a strong appreciation for craft, thanks to the influence of his father, a craftsman and framer. Robert's childhood was filled with trips to antique markets, where his father introduced his children to different styles and periods in furniture and decorative arts. This early contact with craftsmanship formed the basis for his later studies in art and design. A pivotal moment in Robert's journey was a visit to Morocco in 2017, where he was impressed by the beauty and simplicity of local crafts. This experience led to the realisation that craft art is often undervalued in France, despite its rich traditions and potential to address current issues such as sustainability and meaning. This inspired him to create a platform that gives national artisans the recognition they deserve.
Robert aims to provide a platform where the value of craft can be fully appreciated
Galerie Suzan is a space where tradition meets modernity. Robert strives to select unique pieces that embrace organic forms and natural colours, often with a clear influence of Mediterranean culture. The gallery is more than an exhibition space; it is a place where craftsmanship, design and art are brought into harmony. By working closely with artisans, exclusive pieces are created especially for the gallery. Robert's approach to collaboration is based on mutual respect and a shared vision, leading to unique and meaningful works of art. Located in Paris' 10th arrondissement, Galerie Suzan's showroom offers a carefully curated collection, including woodwork by Marie Delaunay and ceramics by Laura Giudice. While the showroom provides a physical space for visitors to admire the pieces up close, an online shop has also launched to reach a wider audience. Robert aims to provide a platform where the value of craft art is fully appreciated. With his experience in the world of design and his deep appreciation for traditional crafts, he has created a gallery that bridges the past and the present, contributing to a renewed appreciation of craft in the modern world.
