Mokkō, a sophisticated interior design studio founded by Aad Bos in 2017, embodies the essence of artisanal craftsmanship and timeless aesthetics. Located in the heart of Amsterdam, Mokkō has quickly developed into a trusted name among renowned interior design professionals and design enthusiasts worldwide. Mokkō's designs are distinguished by their monolithic forms, created through a careful interplay of volumes and voids. Each piece balances on the border of architectural precision and artistic expression, stripped of superfluousness, leaving only the pure inspiration that resonates with the viewer's emotion.
With deep respect for nature and the traditions of furniture construction, Mokkō works closely with local carpenters in the Netherlands. Each object is made from high-quality, sustainable materials such as French and German oak and American walnut. These materials are FSC or PEFC certified, which guarantees that they come from responsibly managed forests. This careful choice of materials and local craftsmanship ensure that each object is not only unique, but also promises to be a future heirloom, meant to be cherished and passed on for generations. The origins of Mokkō lie in a trip to Japan, where the beauty of natural imperfection and traditional woodworking deeply inspired Aad Bos. The name Mokkō, meaning woodworking in Japanese, reflects this influence. Mokkō's designs embrace a contemporary approach to traditional Japanese design, with a strong focus on minimalist and clean lines combined with bold, geometric details. These elements create a visual harmony that is both inspiring and serene.
Mokkō's unique aesthetic, combining raw materials and understated forms with geometrically expressive details
Besides furniture pieces, Mokkō's collection also includes acoustic art panels and other interior accessories. Each item is designed and manufactured with extraordinary care, ranging from tables and coffee tables to bookcases and unique decorative pieces. Prices for these extraordinary objects vary depending on size and features, with an average price of €7,210 on platforms such as 1stDibs. A self-taught lawyer and designer, Aad Bos trained at renowned institutions such as the Edinburgh College of Art and Delft University of Technology. His career as a corporate lawyer in Istanbul, London and Amsterdam at Baker & McKenzie provided a solid foundation for his later creative ventures. In 2017, he decided to follow his passion for creation and founded Mokkō. His designs are characterised by original minimalist structures and striking elements, while maintaining a serene aesthetic balance. Mokkō's unique aesthetic, combining raw materials and understated forms with geometrically expressive details, has put the studio on the international map. Instead of mass production, Mokkō opts for the personal touch of local craftsmanship. This makes each object truly unique and personal, a reflection of the philosophy that a good interior should leave room for the mind to be inspired and engaged. Mokkō's creations are not just objects; they are works of art that tell a story and evoke emotions, designed to have a lasting impact on the living environment and the people who live in it."
