In the heart of Northwest Washington, DC, a contemporary home called Forest Hills embraces casual elegance with a modern and warm design. Originally built in 1994 and designed by Stephen Muse Architects, this home has undergone a metamorphosis led by Laura Hur, founder of Lorla Studio. The result? A home that embraces nature and reflects the owner's passions.
The home exudes an air of understated luxury, with vintage furniture and sculptural furnishings in neutral tones of the surrounding natural beauty. For this, a subtle colour palette became the base, combined with black accents that enhance the richness of walnut. The contemporary home in Forest Hills reflects tranquillity through breath-taking views of Rock Creek Park. Initially built in 1994, it retained strong foundations and an excellent floor plan. Lorla Studio gave it a contemporary makeover, balancing between modern and functional. With a deliberately limited colour palette of dark greens, browns, tans, greys and whites, the house offers a powerful look, creating a timeless aesthetic. The recurring natural interior elements provide the house with a fresh look and blur the line between interior and exterior.
Thanks to the use of sculptural lines and warm colours, an intimate atmosphere was created.
The clean and minimal feel is achieved by carefully selecting each piece of furniture for functionality and beauty. Her inspiration came from a love of nature, vintage watches, classic cars, minimalism and modern architecture. Thus, she purposefully chose a low arrangement of furniture in the living room, with sculptural lines and warm colours, to create an intimate atmosphere. The desired atmosphere was one of casual elegance: modern, minimal and refined, yet highly functional for the needs of the occupants. A subtle balance between luxury and comfort, suitable for sophisticated gatherings as well as relaxed family gatherings and everyday living. This project has resulted in a home that embodies the designer's vision, combined with the residents' personal touches and lifestyle. A fresh start in a wonderful paradise, after several life changes and that combined with carefully selected elements has transformed this home into a place of elegance, warmth and timeless aesthetics.
